There are two significant changes to the registration process for the 2009-10 season. You may hear people discussing the rule changes. Read the new participation rule through the link below + the summary we have here. If you have questions, please direct your questions to Gary Westman at hockeywestman@comcast.net
1) The residency rule for where players play hockey has been revised. Squirt/U10-aged players & older can now play Minnesota Youth Hockey based on where they attend school. See http://www.minnesotahockey.org for details.
If the revised rule affects your family and your player is a returning player, you can make a one-time request to continue to play in our association for this coming season + all future seasons or simply register with the new association that covers the area where your child attends school. Be prepared to show proof of where your child attends school at registration, especially if you are changing associations this season based on the revised rule.
Mite-aged/U8-aged players and younger can play either where they attend school or in the "former system" of where they reside. When they reach Squirt/U10-age, they must play where they attend school. Mite-aged/U8 players and younger residing within ISD 197 boundaries and attending school outside of ISD 197 boundaries, but wanting to play their youth hockey with us going forward can request the one-time exception to play here as stated in the above paragraph.
All other requests to play hockey outside of the revised rules require a waiver.
2) Minnesota Hockey and USA Hockey registration must be completed on-line prior to registering with Sibley Area Youth Hockey. We have information posted below on how to do this.
